When sickness, depression, debt, shame, and delay nearly destroyed my relationship and future, God stepped in and rewrote our story. This is my true marriage testimony of how God restored love, provision, and a life of purpose when everything felt like the end.
If God did it for us, He can do it for you.
When Love Met a Storm We Didn’t Expect
I met my wife in July 2022, in a church, during an interdenominational choir gathering.
We became friends almost immediately.
We shared some things in common: love for God and passion for His work, which drew us together.
It didn’t take long for us to be honest about our intentions.
By September 2022, I proposed.
We fixed our wedding for December 2022.
We were full of hope and brighter future plans
But we didn’t know that the same moment we made those plans…
war had started.
“In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” John 16:33 (NIV)

When Sickness Put Our Wedding on Hold
Less than a week after fixing our wedding date, I became seriously ill to death.
The sickness almost took my life. And because of this, our wedding was suspended.
The date was cancelled. All prayers and focus shifted to whether I would survive.
The money we saved for marriage went into hospital bills.
Families and friends spent millions of naira trying to keep me alive.
Months passed. I was still fighting for my life.
“The Lord is close to the brokenhearted.” Psalm 34:18 (NIV)
Discharged… But Life Fell Apart
In February 2023, I was discharged from the hospital, but instead of relief and recovery, reality hit us hard.
We had given up on marriage plans. We were emotionally drained. Our savings were gone.
My wife had abandoned her tech business to care for me full-time.
A marine engineering contract I was about to sign was cancelled.
Doctors advised me not to engage in stressful work.
We had nothing to fall back on. Depression set in.
“We were under great pressure… so that we despaired of life itself.” 2 Corinthians 1:8 (NIV)

Losing Everything, Including Our Dignity
Clients left my wife. Her work tools crashed. We struggled to eat.
Rent became overdue, and we had no choice but to move back to the family house.
We stayed almost a year. Nothing changed.
I applied for jobs, went for interviews, but got turned down repeatedly.
When we tried to revive my wife’s business, she was wrongly accused of being a scammer, simply because she couldn’t deliver jobs while caring for me in the hospital.
That accusation and the whole drama took a toll on her.
Doors closed.
“People despised me… but the Lord stood by me.” Psalm 118:7 (NLT)
When Faith Was Small, but Still Alive
We prayed. We cried.
Sometimes we couldn’t even pray properly.
But deep down, we still believed God had not finished with us.
Then God instructed us to move out of the family house. We had nowhere to go, no money.
We decided to relocate to Abuja to start afresh and clear our heads from the trauma. My sister-in-law sponsored our movement to Abuja (FCT), where we were squatting with a friend.
People had already given up on us getting married. Some even spoke badly behind our backs because we were staying together without getting married legally.
The shame was heavy.
“Those who trust in the Lord will never be disgraced.” Romans 10:11 (NIV)

The Leap of Faith That Changed Everything
When we could no longer squat, we took a leap of faith. We decided to start a digital marketing agency together. With the total savings of ₦100,000 only.
Not enough for rent, not even enough for food.
Yet, we added the currency of faith, and we contacted a serviced apartment company.
The apartment cost ₦400,000.
We paid part with the only ₦100,000 we had, and promised the rest within a week, without knowing how. The accepted the part payment and gave us a room in the apartment.
When we entered the apartment, we knelt and praised God. We poured out our hearts to God.
Like the widow with her last meal, we told God we had given all we had, and we do not have anything to feed on; we gave everything out for the rent.
“She had only a little oil… and God multiplied it.” 1 Kings 17:12–16 (NLT, paraphrased)
When God Answered in Less Than 30 Minutes
Less than 30 minutes after that prayer, something happened.
An old client, who had once disappeared with my wife’s money, reached out.
They offered:
- A new job worth over $3,000
- Plus repayment of $1,000 owed
We screamed. We cried. We shouted, and even our neighbours wondered what could be going on with us. We broke into worship.
Hope came alive instantly.
“The Lord turned our mourning into dancing.” Psalm 30:11 (NIV)

Marriage, Restoration, and a New Beginning
The wedding that had been delayed for almost two years of delay because of funds, we planned and fixed the date in less than two months. We had a colourful wedding.
Our business revived.
Our shame turned to fame. Our disgrace turned to grace.
We lost everything, but we never lost our faith. We never lost our praise.
“My grace is sufficient for you.” 2 Corinthians 12:9 (NIV)

Important Lessons to Learn From This Marriage Testimony and Faith
This journey taught us truths that every believer, especially those going through hardship, needs to remember:
1. God’s Timing Is Not a Delay
What looked like a total collapse was actually God rearranging our lives. The wedding delay, the sickness, and the financial loss were painful, but they were not denials. Faith helps us trust that God’s timing is always perfect, even when it feels late.
“For everything there is a season, a time for every activity under heaven.” Ecclesiastes 3:1 (NLT)
2. Faith Can Be Small and Still Work
Our faith was not loud or strong at some points: it was weak and tired. But even a little faith held on to God, and that was enough. Faith is not about how bold you feel; it’s about who you are trusting.
“If you have faith as small as a mustard seed…” Matthew 17:20 (NIV)
3. God Can Restore What Looks Completely Lost
We lost money, opportunities, reputation, time, and strength. Yet God restored beyond what we imagined: marriage, business, honour, and joy. Restoration is part of God’s nature.
“I will restore to you the years the locusts have eaten.” Joel 2:25 (NIV)
4. Obedience Opens Doors When Logic Fails
Moving when we had no money and no plan did not make sense, but obedience positioned us for a miracle. Faith sometimes means moving without seeing the full picture.
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart…” Proverbs 3:5–6 (NIV)
5. God Uses Pain to Build Purpose
What almost destroyed us became a testimony that now gives hope to others. Faith helps us understand that our pain is never wasted; God uses it to shape purpose.
“And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good…” Romans 8:28 (NLT)
6. Praise Keeps Faith Alive
Even when we had nothing left, we didn’t lose our praise. Praise reminds your soul that God is still God, no matter the situation.
“I will bless the Lord at all times…” Psalm 34:1 (ESV)
Key Takeaway:
We lost everything, but we did not lose our faith and that made all the difference. Faith held on, mercy spoke, and God turned our shame into grace.
What Faith Truly Is (For Every Believer)
Faith is not pretending everything is fine.
Faith is trusting God when everything is falling apart.
“Faith shows the reality of what we hope for.” Hebrews 11:1 (NLT)
Faith held us when:
- Money was gone
- Health was broken
- Marriage looked impossible
And God honoured it. This is our true life story, this is our marriage testimony of Gods divine favour and timely intervention
